Halesworth Town Park
Halesworth Town Park is a beautiful 1.5 ha green space, bordered by mature trees, that is used for great community activities such as Lions Fairs & The Big Gig.
It was created in 1971/72 adjacent to the old Halesworth Navigation Canal and Lock. This was used by 57ft flat-bottomed wherries with distinctive rust-coloured trapezoid sails to carry goods along the Blyth Valley to Southwold Harbour from 1757 to 1911. A tributary of the river Blyth also runs through the Park.
The grounds are formed from several notable old gardens, providing significant numbers of beautiful mature trees, including beech, willow and London Plane. It is particularly rich in wildlife, including kingfishers, owls, egrets, herons, great spotted woodpeckers, tree creepers, tawny owls, otters, water voles, and several species of bat, together with adders and slow worms.
National Cycle Route 1 passes through the Park, providing access to the Millennium Green riverside meadows, Halesworth’s unique 55 acre Millennium Green – the largest in the country.
Facilities are ample with a pay & display car parking across the main road with a covered underpass giving disabled access. Public toilets are provided next to the Floral Entrance created by Halesworth in Bloom. The car park is also close to an enclosed toddlers’ play area. Teenagers are catered for with a skateboard park and a basketball practice area.
