This the fourth year Halesworth in Bloom has been giving regular small gifts of home grown flowers, bulbs and fruit to Housebounders who are cared for by Halesworth's wonderful band of 'befrienders' who are also part of our Halesworth Volunteers and who do so much voluntary work for the people of Halesworth. This is not a requirement of the In Bloom Judges but it is one of our most enjoyable regular activities creating these gifts and cards for those who cannot get out easily to enjoy the beauty of gardens, hedgerows and local produce. The Swan Lane Allotmenteers also have a free gift tray for anyone who needs vegetables and fruit but cannot grow their own.
Our Halesworth Brownies also regularly help with these gifts by decorating them and making lovely cards. At Christmas we are planting up scented white hyacinths in pots for the Brownies to make festive and to create Christmas greetings cards.
The vetted 'Befriends' are all known and true friends of some quite vulnerable people and they are the best conduit for doing this.
