Tamsyn Imison, Our Founder
A tribute to our Founder, Tamsyn Imison.
Tamsyn's final letter
From the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital Friday 8th September 2017
From Tamsyn to dearest family and friends
Two nights ago I awoke to find I was looking up into the face of a wonderful saint-like Registrar from the Oncology team here Dr Gill Gray.*** My first contact with Oncology and only instigated by Claire our GP after being diagnosed in May with acute Melanoma. She, Gill Gray set in train an immediate scan and found I have rapid progression of the cancer now affecting the whole area operated on, as well as the back vertebrae which will stop movement below the growth and is acutely painful, the liver and lungs as well as lung blood clots.
My operation for bladder removal, hysterectomy and lymph nodes removal on the 5th July was optimistically described as having been totally removed by the Urologist and plastic surgeons working on the lymph, as fully successful so I was under these two departments for pain relief which has been acute for 9 weeks on my return.
Gill Gray immediately put in place an elaborate and effective pain programme so yesterday evening and today I have virtually got through pain free I feel far more normal instead of the constant serious nausea, no appetite and acute pain in the operating region and around the back which is why we called 999 on Wednesday as I couldn't bear it a day longer.
Well now I know what I have been suspecting for some time as has my wonderful GP Claire Craik that I have a full cancer return and now only a few weeks left.
This for me is far less of a challenge than for others. I am 80, have had the most wonderful life with family friends, career and most especially our nearly 60 year long marriage to Michael who is a star of the first order as has been Katharine leaving her children and husband flying over from Texas and Candace arranging her National Heath Presentation as a Nuffield Trust Director with a colleague so both are with us.
The plan is now for me to leave hospital next week, once my bedroom is transferred to our lovely back sitting room with special NHS air bed, carers and a full pain and palliative package so I can enjoy my lovely home and garden and be with family and friends around not least the town which our wonderful team have florally transformed.
So just to tell you I am full of cheer, love you lots and look forward to things getting better and my hope is in our great youngsters, We have just planted a giant Redwood in our Town Park - it must get to at least 100 feet!
Just a few to be getting on with and this time it's over to the majority of you and the young who do care
All love Tamsyn
